Ouray Via Ferrata- “Downstream” Route

Experience an unforgettable guided adventure on Ouray’s first via ferrata!

LOCATION: Ouray, Colorado
TRIP DATE: May-October

  • $785 Total: for up to 4 climbers

    +$219 for each additional climber

  • Introductory to Advanced
    No prior experience is necessary. Participants must be able to walk on uneven terrain for up to two miles and climb a ladder.

  • 3-6 Hours

    Timing is dependent on group ability and fitness.

  • Via ferrata, Italian for “iron path,” is an exciting way to explore rugged terrain using steel cables, fixed holds, and natural rock features. Ouray’s route winds through the stunning Uncompahgre Gorge, just across from the legendary Ouray Ice Park.

    With soaring views and airy sections above the flowing Uncompahgre River, this route offers an enjoyable, introductory to intermediate option—perfect for first-timers and seasoned adventurers alike. Led by expert IFMGA Mountain Guides, it’s a  mountain adventure you won’t forget.

    (People under 90lbs or over 265lbs will require a belay to ensure the equipment functions properly- this may require an extra guide.)

  • Included:

    • 1 trip guided on the via ferrata by IFMGA Mountain Guides

    • Up to 4:1 guest to guide ratio (people under 90lbs and over 265lbs might require an extra guide)

    • Climbing harness, helmet, and via lanyard

    • Land use fees

    • $10/pp of rent paid to the Boys and Girls Club of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe

    Not Included:

    • Personal snacks/food

    • Gloves- bike or gardening

    • Personal climbing clothing and equipment per the equipment list

    • Travel and rescue insurance (highly recommended!)

    • Lodging in Colorado

    • Transportation to/from/in Colorado

    • Guide gratuity

    • Incurred costs by leaving a trip early

    • Incurred costs as a result of force majeure

These historic routes use steel cables, ladders, and natural rock features to lead you across dramatic ridgelines, limestone towers, and old World War I paths. Hike hut to hut or base out small villages throughout Italy, and devour classic Italian food and wine. Enjoy classic routes such as:

    Families, groups, or solo travelers are welcome. Moxie will help you design a trip tailored to your goals and experience level, and your trip will be led by an IFMGA Mountain Guide.
